Gender Stereotyping - Shoes

In the “historical" advertisement is more focus on the shoes then the woman. The woman is wearing black gloves with an elegant red coat that stops at her knees. You can see the woman from head to toe. The photo of the woman is taking most of the room on the page; however, on the bottom left there is a large illustration of the shoe that is being advertised. This ad is showing off the elegance of the shoe and of the women that would be wearing this shoe.

In the new “up to date” advertisement of shoes is more sexual. You can only see the back side of the women (from the waist down). She is in her underwear, some type of shirt and shoes. She is on the phone that has a cord; the cord is wrapping around the women’s leg, making us look up (leading the eye to her bum). Unlike the historical advertisement, the stand alone photo of the shoes is small. Shoved in the bottom left had side, taking maybe 5% of the ad where the historical took maybe 20% and was almost bigger than the photo of the woman.

The historical advertisement is selling the elegance of the women’s shoes and the up to date one is selling what your body could look like (selling sex!)
